In the recent week in fashion spreads, we noticed this cute guy. Lo and behold, AJ Abualrub has now been chosen as the new face of Calvin Klein. We are keeping our fingers crossed for him to start appearing in the CK undies. Just some background on AJ, born on June 20 1987 and currently residing in Ohio USA. His blue eyes is just mesmorising. More pics of AJ…

There is no other vocal talent that is comparable to UK’s Craig David. With the latest single “Insomnia”, Craig David has once again proven not only his song writing ability but when he sings, it feels like you are magically swoop away in his cool romantic wonderland. We can play this song over and over again.

Acoustic version. He sure can sing live.

Unique discovery of the day. The leading home appliance group Panasonic set about redesigning one of the most ubiquitous pieces of modern technology – the TV remote control, a devise which is “ignored” when not in use.  Talk about a wimpy remote. Panasonic’s Gel Remote concept is constructed with flesh-like material which is meant to give a more “tacit” feel. Panasonic says that the material used for most remote controls is resin, but this gives the impression of lifelessness. Might just give a feel of the reader out there a strange familiarity to dildos.  :)

Overall a really good collection by Helmut Lang for Resort 2009, which is comparable to Alexander Wang. Very wearable and very beautiful. Prints are lovely and the jackets, vest and dresses are top-notch.  However we do find that the designers at Helmut Lang may have been thinking too “simple”. What we meant here is that even though we adore the minimalist feel, somehow the collection for Resort 2009 is not wild enough to catch our excitement and anticipation. Do you have the same thoughts as well?

Baby Phat, the brain child of Kimora Lee Simmons, has recently launched their collection for Spring Summer 2009. The reviews has been mixed, with some the critics citing the lack of creativity in the collection. Nevertheless, we quite like some of the sassy pieces while signals a departure from the usual ghetto chic seen in Baby Phat. We would actually wear most of the pieces to be fair.

Who would have imagined this? The ripped jeans that was all the craze in the 90s are making a combeback. Clean rips, messy rips, all ripped details on jeans seem to be appearing on the runway lately. We first notice this during Maison Martin Margiela s/s 2008 show and it was a sign that the once popular street trend is creeping into high street collections. Since then, D&G, Dsquared2, and the usual suspect TopShop have all used them in there advertising campaigns. Watch out for them in 2009.

Thats too much cuts for us.

Adidas Orginals has recently launched the latest collection for Spring Summer 2009. Continuing the trend of chic and sporty playfulness, adidas up the ante by adding a glorious variety of colors – hot pink, purple and bold use of red. Looks great but they might just be a little too young looking for us, we are after all near our 30s and it will be quite silly to be spotted in these.

Zac Posen has given us some insight into Fall 2009 trends with his pre-fall series. In our opinions, the entire setup, the collection and the runway setting looks great! The choice of venue is rather interesting, you have the impression that it was made to look like a student show. It is a strange choice (Miu Miu did something like this back in 2006), but we wonder what message is Posen trying to convey. Check out the dresses, lovely with a touch of 40’s and 50’s nostalgia.

Awesome.

Sexy and Chic.

We were asked to review the most memorable runway shows in the past year and the first show that struck our mind is Gareth Pugh Spring Summer 09 that was revealed in Paris back in September. Well, it is not ready-to-wear for sure, but we will not even consider it has couture. Let’s just say that it is really future looking. We can sense some elements of the Star Wars Stormtroopers in them, but hey, its a unique collection anyway. Not sure if we will wear it on the streets though.

The middle ages returns!

Just we approach the final days of 2008, let us have a look at the few runway shows held in New York recently. First up is the gorgeous Spring Summer 09 collection from OmniaLuo. Not too sure if these are ready-to-wears but gosh they are so pretty. Lots of variety here – from dresses to skirts and shirt+pants combi, but the concept is to play around with layers of silk and chiffon. Almost Perfect!

Good execution of sheer layering
